Solar panels instead of asphalt. It ‘the first eco-solar bike path and is designed in green Holland. An innovative project in the field of sustainable energy and mobility.
The idea, beautiful and above all environmentally sustainable, has been realized in Krommenie on the outskirts of Amsterdam, where a section of the road is covered with solar panels, positioned below a tempered glass and connected to the electric city. Designed by university researcher Sten De Wit, the bike path of the future consists of a mantle asphalt surface but hiding under a complex system of cells that can capture solar energy and use it again later.
The track is nicknamed SolaRoad, a distance of approximately 70 meters that about 2,000 cyclists cross every day. Cost 3 million euro in six months has produced 3 thousand kWh of electricity. It is time for a pilot project that will last three years. According to researchers, the 100 meters of solar panels are able to provide the amount of energy sufficient to meet the everyday needs of three families. The main purpose of the initiative is to promote and broaden awareness on renewable sources.
If this experiment proves effective, the next step will be the use of this technology also in the streets to automobile use. This idea could have a positive impact on the environment, roads revolutionary that generate clean energy, without CO2, rather than places with toxic gases.
Sunlight is a clean energy source, renewable and free. It would be interesting if similar projects will be replicated on a large scale and taken as an example in other parts of the world.
