The troubles of Livestock Intensive | eatparade
Behind the slaughter of meat consumption, they are hiding real practices barbarism against animals. It is no secret that the meat sold in fast-food at modest price of a few dollars is of poor quality, but that behind this poor quality there is also a trail of suffering, probably few people suspect.
The conditions in which meat is produced it’s part of an economic process that starts from the terrifying living conditions of cattle up to the impoverishment of villages and seas. The cheap meat, in fact, is one of the resources at our disposal; however, it can produce devastating effects on the entire ecosystem. Considering that, large companies need huge amounts of meat and therefore also of feed, the animals are forced to endure torture; livestock is often over-fed with huge loads of corn genetically modified or produced after a massive deforestation, a discriminating use of herbicides and fishing techniques. When there is a disease, for example due to overcrowding in the cages in which they are forced to live herds and flocks, we resort to drugs and broad-spectrum antibiotics.
A poisoned system of the cheap meat, the use of which do not seem to be worth; despite the different strategies put in place to save it, the meat is still sold at a price lower than the cost required to produce it.
What to do then? Not necessarily consider a vegan option but at least try to minimize the consumption of meat whenever possible to prefer the local, buy eggs from hens kept outdoors and fish from environmentally sustainable farms.
