On October 31, he will be awarded the team behind the Pavilion of the United Kingdom, as the best pavilion of the Expo, since September 29th, the three-year in Milan it was the winner of the international award “The Architecture of the pavilions of Expo Milano 2015”. The event organizers are the National Institute of Architecture (In / Arch), the Association of Construction Contractors, the National Council of Architects, and Federcostruzioni Oice (coordination of PPan).
The Pavilion occupies an area of over 1900 meters and its structure, imitates a bee hive, as the latter plays an important role in the ecosystem, in fact, the hives because they are sick and are disappearing, it is because the world is sick due to pollution. It is an invention designed (the so-called project Hive) by British sculptor Wolfgang Buttress, selected among the eight projects proposed following an international competition and was joined by the architects of the BDP-Building Design Partnership and engineers of construction company Stage One and Rise to the building.
This giant hive of aluminum, a golden ball in the green 14 meters high, consists of metallic elements that can be put back at the end of exposure; before arriving at the hotel visitors walk through an orchard (in particular, the apple and pear tree, because they belong to the memory and national identity of the English) and on a field of wild flowers, all accompanied by the hum registered a real beehive and a thousand led lights that turn on and off depending on the movement of bee colony. An impressive experience that excites every visitor because of its play of light and sounds.
The choice of the hive to explain how pollination is essential to the ecosystem of the planet and for food production, in fact, the pavilion celebrates the importance of bees and their tireless work, the human alimentary chain.
