The party most frightening of the world is in Italy followed by the visit to the cemetery for deceased relatives and friends. Usually these days are accompanied by blacks clothes to mark the mourning and pumpkins give way to chrysanthemum.
But not in all parts of the world is so, Halloween can turn into an exorcism of parades and color anything but macabre. This is what happens in Mexico.
The commemoration of the dead can become a time of rebirth and on the tombs of the dead not only bring flowers, but also pastries, fruit and even bottles of tequila. In memory of those who disappeared now, that produce, concerts and Nov. 2 are just the dead overlooking the living.
Skeletons who dress in shocking pink, theatrical tricks reminiscent Dìa de los Muertos, remembering ancient traditions as those of the Aztecs, who observed the cosmic order in the alternation of life and death.
The 1 and 2 November according to popular tradition, the dead come back to life again to meet their loved ones, to enjoy some typical food, liquor and literally make spree. For this the welcome of the living must be warm and not gloomy. Hence the establishment of “altars” very private informal called ofrendas.
Sometimes the food is left right out the front door, so that the dead can help themselves.
It is customary on this occasion stand in cemeteries and organize vigils and picnics.
One of the typical sweets is the skull of colored sugar, these skulls are known as calaveras and often are customized with the name of the person “chosen”. A real treat is the pan de muertos, a sweet loaf mixed with egg, covered with two strips of icing.
Since 2003 the Dìa de los Muertos is considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, that describes it as “one of the most ancient cultural expressions and the most important among the indigenous groups of the country.”
