Eating out in London.
In London if you are in the street and you are hungry, you have many possibilities of eating something. It depends on how much you want to spend and what you like.
If you want to have a cheap and quick snack, you can buy a hot dog in the street.
A hot dog is a hot sausage served with onions and mustard in a sandwich or bread roll. You can also buy fish and chips and eat them in a piece of paper while you walk and look in the shop windows. That costs a bit more: between £2.50 and £3.
If you want to sit down and relax, but still you do not want to spend too much, you many decide to go to a fast food restaurant. McDonald’s, Burger King offer a large variety of cheap food. At McDonald’s and Burger Kings you can buy any kind of hamburgers. Small pieces of fried chicken are offered at the Kentucky shops. Nowadays there are also many chains of shops where you can have pizza, like Pizza Hut, Pizza Express,. Young people generally go to these places and the pizzas are good.
Many English people, however, prefer to have lunch in the pub. At lunch time pubs are crowded with people who want a light meal and a glass of beer. For about £4 people can eat a couple of Cumberland sausages and chips, or rice and chilli, or a Ploughman’s lunch, a plate of cheese and bread, or salads of many kinds.
Finally, in the evening, in addition to the places above, there are restaurants of different levels and nationalities, including Aberdeen Steack House and Italian, Chinese and Indian restaurants. If you go to England for the first time, remember that pubs do not serve food in the evening, only drinks.
