However, the ice is also vital for the survival of many animal species, from polar bears to whales, two thirds of which, without ice may disappear already in 2050 according to figures from the WWF.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a> For these reasons, the phenomenon of the <\/span><\/span>shrinking of glaciers<\/b><\/span><\/span> is increasingly worrying.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This mostly affects the Arctic and Antarctica, where the temperature increase is double that of other areas of the globe. In addition to the poles, however, even the Alpine glaciers (including those of our Alps, as well as those of the Himalayas, Patagonia, Alaska, Urals and the Kilimanjaro) see a reduction of up to 75%.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

WWF stresses that from the ice on the planet depends also human safety. The rise in sea level, in fact, threatens 360 million people living in coastal cities. Most of the world’s coastlines are likely to be submerged.<\/span><\/span>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
