UNiTE - per porre fine alla violenza sulle donne | eatparade
Violence against women is a large and widespread phenomenon. It is not just an Italian problem. According to data from the World Health Organization, at least one in five women suffered physical or sexual abuse by a man in the course of its existence.
Women rarely report these abuse. Yet they are often serious violence causing injuries on the bodies of women. And no less serious psychological wounds.
Research by the Harvard University taken from the ONU (2003) says that the number one cause of death and disability for women in the world is not the disease, war or accidents, but domestic violence (including sexual) suffered by the woman from her husband, parent, partner, sometimes the child.
On 25 November is celebrated around the world the International Day for the Elimination of violence against women organized by the United Nations, in that such violence is a violation of human rights. Not only that, the Secretary-General’s Campaign “UNiTE to end violence against women” has proclaimed on 25th of each month the ‘ Orange Day’, a day to raise awareness and to take action to stop violence against women.
Something has been done lately to try to ensure equality between the two genders: they were born of anti-violence centres and increased associations (such as the pink telephone) that protect these women and their families. In addition, in all Western countries was established the crime of femicide.
Another step towards creating a world free of this kind of violence, is the development of technological tools, an effective way to prevent and end violence against women. May 25 campaign is focused on using technology to prevent violence against women and girls.
There are many new technological tools that can help to protect women and girls from violence, including: mapping tools, identifying the place where violence is taking place; social platforms that connect women and girls with community advocates against violence; the Internet, as it offers access to information, especially about women’s rights; alarm applications enhance communicating, when you feel in danger, with people who care about security; the collection of evidence, through technological tools in order to improve access to justice for the victims. There are many organizations that are using the “power” of technology to curb this phenomenon.
