UN participation in Expo 2015 presents characteristics of absolute novelty. For the first time in the history of world exhibitions, the United Nations has chosen not to have its own pavilion but an articulate presence spread along the exhibition site starting with the Hall Zero, introductory pavilion for those who are about to visit the exhibition, and in different halls and clusters. To this end it created a logo, a blue spoon, as the United Nations flag, symbol of food security and nutrition once for all. Moreover, due to the Italian UN transaltion, ONU, the spoon combined with the letter “O” symbolizes the victory of the zero hunger and malnutrition. Made of recyclable material, the large spoon, chosen as symbol because it brings together the culinary traditions from around the world, it reminds everyone that the Zero Hunger Challenge is global. It will be recognized by the presence of issues dear to the United Nations. A widespread presence through a route consisting of 18 multimedia installations, which winds from the Pavilion Zero through the Biodiversity Park, the Children’s Park, Future Food District, the nine thematic clusters, the national pavilions to the Cascina Triulza. This participation model provides content spread throughout the Expo site with the goal of producing an unprecedented impact. Posts with videos, photos, info graphics and maps will show the commitment of the United Nations to reduce the imbalance in access to food for the people and ensure a sustainable future for the planet. An educational and interactive symbolic path with which they will demonstrate to visitors how anyone can contribute to the fight against hunger in the world and how this objective can be achieved by working together.
