The World Humanitarian Day, celebrated on 19 August, this year has been in scene at the Expo in Milan. In keeping with the theme of the Universal Exposition “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life” was an opportunity to talk about food and explain how to ensure access to those who need it most by working with other organizations. During the Day, with the theme “Inspire humanity in the world”, various activities have given visibility to humanitarian crises on the planet. The main objective of the meeting was to arouse a deep sense of global citizenship, but was also to invite all to share and spread throughout the world the principles of solidarity, compassion and responsibility, a call to action to reduce suffering caused by humanitarian crises.
In collaboration with civil society associations, the event was organized by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the World Food Program of the United Nations and the Governments of Italy and Switzerland.
A colorful parade, multiethnic, full of music, balloons, have animated the Decuman of Expo for World Humanitarian Day established by the United Nations. The delegations of the pavilions and young people from around the world marched between the curiosities of many people, showing large white letters to form words like unity, dignity, commitment, safety of life, compassion, fairness. Backed by an innovative digital campaign in the name #ShareHumanity, the celebration included an opening ceremony at the Expo Centre, followed by the parade along the Decumano, until the Pavilion of Switzerland, and a conference on world hunger.
The World Humanitarian Day is an occasion to celebrate the spirit that powers the humanitarian work worldwide.
