DOP,IGP e STG: i prodotti tutelati dall'INRAN | eatparade
The European Union to protect the quality and the characteristics of a food or wine, has created certain names related to territorial origins, the place of processing and production techniques.
Italy, with 266 between DOP, IGP and STG, is the European country which has the largest number of agrifood excellences.
The DOP label indicates the protected designation of origin. A DOP product, when the production, processing and preparation of which take place in the defined geographical area. The trademark colors are yellow and red.
The IGP reports the protected geographical indication. The trademark colors are yellow and blue.
Among the Italian DOP and IGP products are fruits and vegetables, grains, vinegar, spices, bakery products, meat and cheeses.
The DOC label indicates the denomination of controlled origin and is a trademark of Italian origin used in oenology.
STG logo indicates the traditional speciality guaranteed. Examples of products TSGS are Italian Neapolitan pizza and mozzarella. Its logo colors are yellow and blue.
The brand IGT report the typical geographical indication. It is a recognition of the quality table wines.
This geographical indications system chosen by the EU, promotes the productive activity and the local economy. Not only protects the environment, precisely because of this unbreakable bond with the territory which requires the protection of ecosystems and biodiversity. Community certification also offers more guarantees to consumers with a level of traceability and food safety standards higher than other products. Safeguard and enhance our production is, therefore, a matter of vital importance not only economic, but are also an important part of our culture, of our know-how, values linked to the territory, and often of our landscapes.
To improve quality and provide greater certainty to consumers, the Ministry for agricultural and forestry policies has often asked INRAN, collaboration for the revision of the specifications of DOP and IGP production.
