Do you remember the picture of the polar bear suffering that moved the Web?
The photos of white bear skinny, weak and suffering caused a sensation. A strong image that shows a polar bear skin bones, bent and balanced on a scrap of ice.
Leaving aside the emotional aspect and rationally addressing the problem, it is call into question the climate change and global warming on the planet.
The signals that launches nature are severe. From the ice on our planet, depend the water resources, climate mitigation, balance of the oceans, greenhouse gas emissions. However, the ice is also vital for the survival of many animal species, from polar bears to whales, two thirds of which, without ice may disappear already in 2050 according to figures from the WWF.
For these reasons, the phenomenon of the shrinking of glaciers is increasingly worrying.
This mostly affects the Arctic and Antarctica, where the temperature increase is double that of other areas of the globe. In addition to the poles, however, even the Alpine glaciers (including those of our Alps, as well as those of the Himalayas, Patagonia, Alaska, Urals and the Kilimanjaro) see a reduction of up to 75%.
WWF stresses that from the ice on the planet depends also human safety. The rise in sea level, in fact, threatens 360 million people living in coastal cities. Most of the world’s coastlines are likely to be submerged.
