Food intolerance

Taking certain foods can cause problems for an organ or the whole organism. In these cases, we talk about food intolerances. In general, the most common are lactose that is the milk sugar, gluten content in many cereals and eggs.

The consumption of certain foods can generate reactions that occur with different symptoms depending on the person; the most common ones are gastrointestinal disorders, headache, skin reactions, asthma, fatigue and overweight. Among the foods that most often cause intolerance there are: milk and dairy products, shellfish, chocolate, strawberries, wheat flour, yeast, eggs, nuts, tomatoes, potatoes and coffee. Unlike allergies, the symptoms do not manifest themselves violently immediately after eating the food, but may occur over time.

Although the food intolerance cannot be cured, it is important to recognize and eliminate the foods responsible and adopt food appropriate. If fact intolerances are not treated, with the passage of time may develop degenerative diseases even serious. When there is a food intolerance, the body is no longer able to properly metabolize a particular nutrient and food, despite chewing, stomach acidity and the presence of intestinal flora, is only partly assimilated.

Nowadays there are several tests to identify the responsible cause of food intolerance, later begins a therapeutic treatment, which most often consists of simply eliminating all the food, without thereby generate the dietary imbalances. The foods responsible for the trouble, in fact, are replaced with others able to meet the nutritional needs of the organism. After the period of abstinence, you can try to gradually reintroduce these foods in the diet.

To date, food intolerances are one of the most controversial areas of medicine: there are different types, are not well-defined symptoms and are not yet completely understood the molecular mechanisms that underlie it.
