The need to safeguard our planet has also infected the world of design. There are many pollutants emitted from floor tiles, parquets, etc. that abound at home and we breathe.

For ecological furniture is a furniture eco-friendly organic materials and their processing should be done with low environmental impact technologies and/or with CO2 zero. This type of furniture is intended to reduce the environmental impact caused by certain materials and chemicals.

The material used must be recycled to 100%, in fact, it is not allowed the use of aluminium, while can be used wood, bamboo, rattan, linen, cotton, recycled plastic, paper and steel. In addition, the furniture and the accessories must be dismantled and the different materials separable, in order to encourage recycling.

Not only. In the manufacture of furniture cannot be used: glues, paints and finishes products containing toxic substances.

In our country, the Anab (National Association of ecological architecture) and the Icea (Institute for ethical and environmental certification) have created an Italian certification: the standard for “bio-ecological Furniture”, with the purpose to assure consumers that the use of these dangerous substances reduced furniture to health and the environment.

The wooden furniture must have certified FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) which guarantees that the product purchased is manufactured using materials from plantations managed in accordance with the standards of good forest management, i.e., not wood from ancient forests or forest areas where human rights are violated. Other certifications for wood are PEFSC and UFAM.

In addition to FSC certified (or PEFSC and UFAM) must follow a certificate that guarantees zero impact manufacturing process.

The advice is to choose products km 0, regional, national, or at least Made in Europe, as the environmental impact of transport becomes lighter.
