Expo 2015: the Swiss pavilion is a great metaphor

Many structures of Expo are become a must, such as the hologram of the United Arab Emirates or technological units of Japan. Among the classics, noteworthy is the Pavilion of Switzerland that reasoned on content. Inside the four towers, there are boxes full of water, salt, apples and coffee, but only up to that, visitors will have taken everything, since they can take what they want and in the quantities required. These towers, representing the four food typical of the country, they are like a huge pantry that no longer supplied when it empties.

The slogan of the Pavilion is: “There is something for everyone?”. A question that makes you think about the available resources of the planet. The structure of the Pavilion is modified when the towers are empty since the platforms on which they stand are lowered gradually. In the last weeks of each tower remained only one level so it is difficult to predict something that remains before the end of the World Fair scheduled for October 31.

The concept invites the audience to reflect on their consumption behavior. They access to the towers by lift and once you reach, the top can freely access to food. However, the resources of the Pavilion, and metaphorically around the planet, are limited.

The Swiss pavilion, therefore, fits perfectly with the theme of the Universal Exposition “Feeding the Planet. Energy for Life“. It will not be aesthetically pleasing, but the idea that underlies it, and that is not to waste and also think about the future generations, makes it among the most interesting pavilions of Expo 2015.

Much of the material used in the Swiss Pavilion will be recovered at the end of the event. At the end of the fair, in fact, the towers will be used again in Swiss cities as urban greenhouses.
